Life In A 1900’S Cotton Mill

£2,100.00

This is a BESPOKE painting taking a look at history, depicting the LIFE IN A 1900s COTTON MILL.
40″ x 40″ ‪‎mixed media‬ painting the frame is chunky and of high quality in order to take the storyboard of work.‬

A bit of background:
My dad was in textiles all his life, having his own company on Whitworth Street in #MANCHESTER and my studio is based in a cotton mill, where I’ve been for eighteen years, so when I climb the heavily worn stairs and remember the workers who grafted there, it just inspired me to paint this.
The frame consists of a montage of imagery that reflects on the rules of the mill, with pictures of industrial machinery, adult workers and even tired children who were put to work, with Queen Victoria making an appearance.
The shuttles and spindles are obviously attached but move freely on the painting to show the constant movement in the mills that never stopped; the colours chosen are deliberately rustic showing the corrosive effect of poverty; while the stiffened cloth strips display the warp and weft of the cotton while the white cotton bolls grow up the painting. ©

This bespoke painting would really suit a loft apartment, penthouse, regeneration industrial wall.
